The MedicMates Alternative Medicine product line was the result of an innovative CEO and talented engineering and management staff. Robert Gurnsey, the inventor of the first acupressure band for nausea, is a creative, inspiring leader. Always interested in alternative medicine, Bob was fascinated by the effective remedies provided by Acupressure therapy. With personal interest, he utilized the knowledge of acupressure therapy, in an effort to invent a product for motion sickness. He was the first to accomplish this in 1981. Unfortunately, the FDA initially prevented the sale of the original product, at the time, called Acuband! Because of other business interests requiring his attention, he stopped marketing the product rather than challenge the FDA. At that time, he had created the sport of Paintball. By 1985, the FDA had lessened their interest in preventing acupressure bands from entering the marketplace and was more concerned with the labeling of them. Shortly thereafter, the name Acuband reappeared along with SeaBand and additional brands quickly followed! In 1995, Gurnsey decided to reinvent a proprietary product line and went on to create a full line of MedicMates alternative medicine products! By this time, he was no longer involved with the Paintball industry, and went on to conceive many additional applications for the acupressure bands to relieve a host of symptoms common to us all! Although Bob Gurnsey is no longer involved in the product line, the MedicMates Acupressure Band product line continues to be successful and growing.
